My lovely G4 died and has been replaced with a sticker-less macbook pro. I’m thinking of putting this old buddy on the wall.

Feeling a bit jet-lagged from the clocks moving forwards, but it feels like the year has jumped forwards (which it needed to do) by 2 months. Soon I might even get on my skateboard.

Christian Domestic Discipline (which, incidentally, is a fantastic name for an indie band) is described as:

A domestic discipline marriage is one in which one partner in the marriage is given authority over the other and has the means to back the authority, usually by spanking.

A Christian Domestic Discipline marriage is one that is set up according to Biblical standards; that is, the husband is the authority in the household. The wife is submissive to her husband as is fit in the Lord and her husband loves her as himself. He has the ultimate authority in his household, but it is tempered with the knowledge that he must answer to God for his actions and decisions. He has the authority to spank his wife for punishment, but in real CDD marriages this is taken very seriously and usually happens only rarely. CDD is so much more than just spanking. It is the husband loving the wife enough to guide and teach her, and the wife loving the husband enough to follow his leadership. A Christian marriage embodies true romance and a Christian man a true hero.

Best to avoid that topic. Beating your wife is clearly sanctified, but we’re not sure, yet, whether you should beat your kids - that’s up to you (although if the Bible is inerrant, there’s a lot of ambiguous treatment of children therein. Yes, Abraham, I’m looking at you!).

We are not interested in arguing, debating, or justifying our lifestyle.

So just in case you were in any doubt:

In CDD, the husband has authority to spank the wife.
The wife does not have authority to spank her husband.

I mean, if you’re going to canonise a bit of SM (and why not?) wouldn’t it be more fun with a bit of two-way action? Probably why Ted Haggard had to look elsewhere for a little *slap and tickle*.

Consider me corrected (and very nearly converted). These (g)od-botherers must really know how to party.

A million seconds is 12 days. A billion seconds is 32 years. A trillion seconds is 32,000 years. And 53 trillion seconds? 1.7 million years.

America’s economy is screwed, but it’s nice to be reminded just how big these numbers get.

I notice also (from my skeptic.org podcast) that we’ve found a black hole with a mass of 16 18 billion solar masses (link). Admittedly it’s a long way away (3.5 billion light years), but that’s a god-damned galaxy eater; Galactus, anyone?
