big numbers
sometimes I need to be reminded how things scale (from here where the future US debt based on their current policies is estimated to be $53 trillion)
A million seconds is 12 days. A billion seconds is 32 years. A trillion seconds is 32,000 years. And 53 trillion seconds? 1.7 million years.
America’s economy is screwed, but it’s nice to be reminded just how big these numbers get.
I notice also (from my skeptic.org podcast) that we’ve found a black hole with a mass of 16 18 billion solar masses (link). Admittedly it’s a long way away (3.5 billion light years), but that’s a god-damned galaxy eater; Galactus, anyone?
